Prof. Devadas Rajaram
Educator | Learning Design Innovator | Futurist with over 20 years of experience as a senior-editor and journalist in newsrooms in the Middle East, in the UK and in India, and as a new media professor at universities and postgraduate schools in India and abroad.
Professor Rajaram is a pioneer in mobile journalism and interactive multimedia storytelling. In 2018, he was named one of the top 20 journalism innovators worldwide by the prestigious US-based MediaShift.org
- as the only Asian and Non-American educator on the list.
He is a founding member of the Global Pop-Up Newsroom since 2012 with Prof. Dr. Melissa Wall, (California State University Norfolk, Los Angeles, USA) and Prof. Dr. David Baines (Newcastle University, UK).
Other core members are Prof. Priya Rajasekar (Coventry University, UK), Prof. Sandra Whitehead (Marquette University, USA, and Rafik Hariri University, Beirut, Lebanon), Prof. Faith Sidlow (Fresno State University, USA) and Dr. Marie Elisabeth Mueller in Germany.
In the Global Pop-Up Newsroom journalism educators, students and independent journalists across four continents and many world regions join hands in reporting global themes with a local angle at special "Pop-Up Events".
In spring 2021 Prof. Rajaram's new book "Social Storytelling, the Art of Telling Stories for the Social Web" will be published by Rheinwerk, co-authored together with Dr. Marie Elisabeth Mueller, in collaboration with top experts and influencers.
He is a co-editor of the book series "Now Media" together with Prof. Harald Eichsteller and Dr. Marie Elisabeth Mueller by Nomos since 2017.
Professor Rajaram has a Master’s degree in International Multimedia Journalism from Newcastle University, UK. He started experimenting with online journalism and mobile storytelling in 1997 and has been teaching mobile journalism, social media and interactive multimedia storytelling since 2012 at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai, India.
He has been a visiting professor at the Stuttgart Media University in Germany. He has also taught multimedia journalism and mobile journalism at the American University in Bulgaria.
